The Real and Perceived Barriers to Remote Invigilation: Understanding the Impact of this Technology on Awarding Bodies Today

Many awarding bodies are moving to e-assessment and some have adopted new exam delivery methods such as remote invigilation, but often these organisations meet with resistance when making the change from pen & paper exams or test centre based exams to remotely invigilated exam delivery. However the Covid-19 crisis has forced many awarding organisations to suddenly make the switch to remote invigilation delivery, who are then having to manage the change process in very short timeframes.
This session will explore what are the potential barriers to using this technology and offer advice on how other awarding bodies have overcome obstacles in this area. This talk will also cover very important pointers around what organisations should be investigating when looking at remotely invigilated exam delivery. This includes considering the variations in delivery styles and technology involved, ways of managing data and how the invigilation service is provided.
The session will refer to examples from a range of awarding bodies who have implemented remote invigilation in a variety of industry types (banking, construction, counselling, recruitment etc.), so the audience can learn and be inspired by other organisations and see how they made these changes and were able to put this approach into practice. This will enable the sharing of best practice and illustrate how this can be done in a way that sets the required high standard for accrediting bodies.
The session will bring together a wealth of real-life knowledge and experience of implementing remote invigilation technology in many different environments. The knowledge shared will be invaluable to any organisations under pressure to move to remote examination delivery under the current difficult circumstances.

Thursday 18th June 2pm: Dr Anja Sisarica, Strategic Relations Manager, Inspera

e-assessment use within the HE sector both before and during the pandemic

One of the key stakeholders to consider in the e-assessment adoption journey would be your students, as the digital exams can make a significant positive impact on their education. In this talk, you will learn more about how we acknowledge students’ experience to play a critical role in the implementation and adoption of digital exams, and to be one of the most influential drivers and metrics for its success. In particular, we will reflect on the case study of the pilot collaboration project conducted at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand in 2019, and the impact digital exams delivered on Inspera Assessment platform had on their students’ experience.

To reflect on how Covid-19 has influenced the student experience of digital exams in Higher Education in 2020, you will then hear about two different strategies universities in Scandinavia have adopted using Inspera Assessment during the pandemic, to ensure remote digital exams are a success, and the continuity and quality of education delivery are preserved also in these challenging times.
